  • Buff Bay is a small, country town in Portland Parish. It has a black sand beach, and a small hotel across from the beach. The jerk stand nearer the hotel and soccer pitch is much better than the one on the main highway near the bridge (Blueberry Hill?). My wife grew up in this town and was the daughter of the railway station master. Unfortunately, the track was destroyed in a hurricane and never repaired. This area used to produce bananas for export, but the cost of banana production in Jamaica is not competitive on the world market. This rural parish is decline due to loss of agricultural exports. This is a wonderful parish and my favorite part of Jamaica. It has some wonderful beaches, towering mountains, and back roads to explore. It is far from the crowds of Negril, MoBay, and Ochi. It is the rainier here than in the western and southern parts of the island.
