The West End Circle facilitated access between Route 51/19, West Carson Street, South Main Street, Steuben Street and the West End Bridge. It was a common source of headaches, not only because of its confusing layout and multiple "weave" zones, but also because of its lack of adequate capacity in relation to modern traffic volumes. Recently, this intersection was overhauled, providing direct access to the West End Bridge, and eliminating the "circle" altogether. The direct link between the West End Bridge and Rte. 51/19 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) opened to southbound traffic on July 31, 2009 and to northbound traffic on March 9, 2010.
