Saint-Pierre and Miquelon

Saint Pierre and Miquelon / Saint-Pierre /

Islands owned by France, largely for their location in rich fishing grounds. The islands have about 6000 total residents, all of whom are French citizens and use the Euro.

This is the last remaining part of what was once "New France" that was largely captured by the British in the French and Indian Wars. This was also the first territory liberated by the Free French forces from the Vichy government in WW2 when the Free French submarine Surcouf arrived in 1942.
