The sandy finger of land emerged only at low tide, parting the water. It is thus named for the Biblical parting of the sea. As of mid March 2011, following the Sendai Tsunami in Japan, the land bridge of Moses Pass disappeared. Even at low tide, it remained submerged under water, thus altering the unique Whale's Tail formation.
Over the subsequent weeks, the Tail has since reappeared!
