lighthouse, Grade II* Listed (UK), scheduled ancient monument, daymark / daybeacon
It is described as England's oldest surviving lighthouse since it was built as a light tower in 1674 by Sir John Clayton but he went bankrupt soon after it was completed. It was designed for a coal or wood fire to be burned on its top, however it is not clear whether it was ever actually used.
