  • I worked at the 97th 1971-1975, lived in Betts housing and used to drink and had many a good time at the 97th Officers club. I used to pass the Plantation club on my way home. I visited Frankfurt in 2008 and the building which was Freddy's is still there. Atterbury and Betts are all demolished and are now low cost housing.

  • My son was born here in 1962. The hospital did not give birth certificates. I had to go to the German Registrar Office to get my son's birth certificate. It was all in German (deutche). I took the BC to the American Embassy in Frankfurt and was informed that that was his birth certificate. I could have an English translation to accompany his BD but that was it and it's that way even today.

I had a bad car accident in Giessen which was my fault and I would like to thank the LTC at 97th for patching me up. Some things can never be forgotten.
  • I was born there in 1955. The hospital was built by the German Nazi's as a luxury type facility. The US converted it after the war was over. I understand that the US Consulate is housed there now.
  • I was born there in 1979...a preemie with a lot of medical issues. The staff did a great job keeping me alive as all odds were against me! I am looking for my birth / medical records from that time...July 1979....I hope they weren't destroyed! :( Can anyone tell me if I have a chance on finding these records?   • After a serious injury will stationed in Germany in 1980. I was rushed to the 97th General Hospital. These moments will live with me forever. Thanks to the staff there I am able to walk today. Though I have lingering disabilities from the accident. If it was not for the medical staff there it would have been far worse. Thank God for the Doctors and nurses that treated me there on 12/17/1980. Peace!
  • My son was born at the 97th in 1986. What an adventure living in Europe was. He is currently in the Air Force now at the age of 31 and texted me today that he was in Germany having left Venice, and Latvia. What wonderful memories I have of our time in Germany. We were stationed in Hanau. Thank you for Germany.
  • I was born in the hospital in 1971 46 years later I'm going back to Germany, can anyone give me the physical address of this hospital, I understand it may be not in operation but I would still like to go and see it.
  • It's on Giessner Strasse. Just google Friedberger Warte(old tower nearby one block or so) and you will get your bearings. I was there in June of this year (stationed there 1973-1975) and security is very tight. They do not allow tours and you must have some sort of consulate business to get an appointment to get inside complex and building.
