The Coxcomb Mountains are a moderately sized, rugged desert range found in the eastern Wilderness of Joshua Tree National Park. They are a typical Mojave Desert quartz monzonite granitic range, and provide excellent habitat for Bighorn Sheep.

Unless you can hike long distances in the desert, the Sierra Club has made it illegal to visit these mountains. The entire area has been declared a Wilderness, where vehicular access on the existing roads is now prohibited.
