Following the closure of the Naval Facilities in San Francisco and Long Beach, this drydock became the largest drydock owned by the US Navy on the US West Coast.
It is used for the preparation of large carriers & ships for mothballing and has most recently been used for the Docking Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) of the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) which saw the carrier being refitted and repaired for over 7 months. Every member of the US Navy Pacific Carrier Fleet will be periodically refitted at this drydock several times during their service.
