The Open Air Museum has been open since 1912 and provides an outstanding look into life in the Netherlands down through the ages. On the 82 acre site, you will find the original concentration of examples of living and working conditions for farmers, craftsmen, shepherds, and fishermen up to the beginning of the 20th Century. Take a walk through homes, barns, shops, etc as if you were living in those times. See the transition of farmers living with their livestock, to separate quarters. Many orginal structures were disassembled and rebuilt on the museum site. Also see newer exhibits (started in 1991) that provide a glimpse into the Netherlands since 1900. The museum has one of the most complete collection of period Netherlands clothing.

  • One of my most favorite memories from my time in Europe in the 60's. It was truly a sense of traveling down through time - seeing the evolution of rural agricultural and animal raising folks from the past. I can still see it more than 40 years later
