The hill of Ano Engliaos the homonym archaeological site includes the ruins of the Palace of Nestor , king of Pylos in antiquity. The site is located approximately 4 km south of the Country Trifylia the road that connects the town to the coast and the town of Pylos.
The Palace of Nestor Palace of Nestor is the central building of the Middle Helladic surrounded by a fortified wall. The palace was a two storey building with warehouses , workshops, bathrooms, skylights , reception rooms and a central sewage system and is the long hill Top Englianos . This is the most well -preserved Mycenaean palace has so far discovered. During excavation , in 1939 , were also identified approximately 1,000 Linear B also discovered numerous art objects dating from 1300 BC . The palace complex used by King Nestor , was destroyed by fire around 1200 BC . [5 ] On 10 December 2012 , the archaeological site was closed for renovation projects and promotion and protection. The roof over the archaeological site of the 1960 , will be replaced with more modern construction. The archaeological site of the Palace is expected to reopen to visitors in late 2014.
