Russell Camp

USA / California / Searles Valley /

One of a few cabins still standing in Butte Valley. These cabins are available for overnight stays on a first come, first served basis. Russell Camp was built by Asa "Panamint Russ" Russell in the 1930 after he retired and became a prospector.

Russell and Ernie Huhn initially visited Butte Valley in 1925 and found - and lost, after they neglected to mark the site - a rich gold vein on the southwest slope of Manly Peak. Russell returned to this area in 1930, built a cabin, and started working the Good Faith claim (possibly the same one lost earlier).
