Cartago is a city in Costa Rica and the capital of Cartago province. It was founded in 1563 and served as the country's colonial capital. In 1910, the city was largely destroyed in an earthquake. It is the home of a miraculous icon of the Virgin of the Angels, Costa Rica's patron saint and the city's main attraction.
