Founded in 1916, Hockerville was yet another zinc/lead mine town in the Tri-State Mining Region, built to house the workers at the town mines. At it's peak in the 1920s, Hockerville boasted 1,500 residents, all miners and their families, mostly living in shacks and tents.

Like its unfortunate neighbors to the west, Hockerville was badly undermined by overzealous exploitation of the lead/zinc ore reserves. In 1950 the town suffered a massive sinkhole directly on Main Street, blocking the road and destroying several homes. The town was officially abandoned in 1963.
