St. Vincent's Home traces its roots 1855 when five Catholic parishes in Philadelphia established an orphanage to serve the needs of Catholic children. Over the years it has evolved into a program serving girls and young women. In 2008 St. Vincents began another transition from it's original campus setting to a decentralized community model. The future of the campus is being determined in consultation with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

  • In the 1930's our mother adopted 3 children at different times from St Vincents The oldest girl is 90 and every day wonders where she came fro. The boys 79 &89 also would like to know where they came from .They were all adopted from St Vincents how can we find information for them we would like to give it to them as a gift.
  • Ancestry DNA It works.
  • did you ever find your sister? I am looking for mine as well, just wanted to know if you had any luck
  • I would recommend everyone here that is searching relatives to take a blood test through ancestry, it gives you names of people who also have done a DNA. It finally led my mother to find her birth mother , my mom, Pauline Cooney was born Joan Farley on January 25,1946 at St. Vincent's hospital on Woodland ave.in Philadelphia. Her mothers name was Mary Virginia Ellis, and she was not married when she gave birth to my mother who we now have learned she has a sister born in 1939. My mother was adopted into a wonderful loving family of the Meyers from Mahoney City,PA. There seemed to be a very possible relationship between John Meyer and my mother's real mom so John's sister Elise Cooney Meyer and her husband Frank Cooney adopted my mother. Now through the DNA testing we find that John Meyer was not the father but a man named Lawrence Kinney. I wish I were a fly in that courtroom in 1950 , one of our answered questions is why did it take 4 years for my mom to be adopted? She was never living in an orphanage...will we ever know?
