Architect brothers Greene & Greene designed the Blacker House in 1907. Considered an "ultimate bungalow," it was sold several times in the latter half of the 20th Century, plundered for some of its fixtures in the 1980's, and finally restored in the 1990's. The removal of more than 70 custom light fixtures by then-owner Barton English -- known as the "Rape of Blacker House" -- prompted the emergency enactment of the Blacker Ordinance, which attempted to limit the dismantlement or removal of furnishings from Greene and Greene designed homes.
