The assembly plant (known as the Castle Bromwich plant despite the fact it is actually located in Castle Vale which has been a part of Birmingham since the 1920's)is Jaguar's main production facility, with the Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Daimler Super Eight and Jaguar XK being produced here. Prior to Jaguar taking over the plant, it was used in World War II for the production of Spitfire fighter planes which were then flown and tested at the Castle Bromwich Aerodrome on the opposite side of Chester Road (now the Castle Vale estate).

In 2009, Jaguar stated that they were to close either the Castle Bromwich or Brown's Lane manufacturing plant as part of a restructuring of the company, putting thousands of jobs at risk. In 2010 Jaguar plant Brown's Lane was closed.
