Milliarium Aureum (Rome)

In 1835 the remains of a large marble cylinder diameter 1.2 metres were found. Evidence shows it was clad in bronze. These are the remains of the Milliarium Aureum on which was once inscribed the distances between Rome and the other major cities of the Empire.
