The fourth of six high schools in Modesto City Schools District. Often considered the most affluent of the six.

When built around 1972, Beyer was way out in the boonies. In anticipation of the 1976 bicentennial, the Patriots were chosen as the school's mascot, and the colors chosen were red, white, and blue. The derogatory mascot nickname applied by students from nearby schools is the Beyer Bunnies.

Beyer High was intended to incorporate the latest advances in the science of education, the most prominent of which was Daily Demand Scheduling (DDS). It taught students the fourth R - Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmetic, and Responsibility. DDS worked so well here that school administrators from around the world would tour Beyer High to see how it was done.

During Beyer High School's Golden Age, from 1974 through 1978, students here achieved a dominance of championships, honors, and awards that were unprecedented in California history, including section, state, and national championships in band, marching band, cheer leading, golf, baseball, softball, tennis, water polo, competitive speech, and others.

Unfortunately, a bunch of new busybodies, taking advantage of mistakes made by previous busybodies, got elected to the City Schools Board about 1978, and failed to learn from the mistakes of the old busybodies that they were replacing, so they formed a committee to examine what students were learning here. Performing the primary function of a committee - to supply adequate stupidity when the stupidity of one person wouldn't suffice - this one went far beyond the call of duty. They noticed that students here were learning something they'd never learned, so all the busybodies got jealous, and axed the DDS program over the united objections of Beyer's staff, administrators, students, and parents. As a result, most of the busybodies didn't last long in office, but like Foreigner sang back then, The Damage is Done.

Although Beyer High School still has excellent sports teams and educational programs, with the loss of DDS, student and staff morale suffered, along with educational potential, and achievements declined.
