Remnants of newspapers dated 1777 and 1785 that were found inside the walls of this building reveal the probable date of construction. The building has probably always been divided into two dwelling units, as well as having retail stores during the 1800s. It is known to have been bought by Abel Snow in 1824. The building now houses two apartments and a [retail] store in the reored basement. A small garret-like room, sealed off from the rest of house, was discovered by previous owners (Martin & Lois Nadel; Gordon & Claudia Van Nes); it has been said that a person hanged himself there in the last century.
