  • This is actually an Anglican Cathedral and not a Roman Catholic Church- this being so since 1655
  • Evie is quite correct. The Spanish built a Roman Catholic Church on the site in 1534. The English captured Jamaica in 1655 and built an Anglican Church on the site.
  • Everybody is quite right it was built by the Spanish and destroyed by Thomas Cromwell's soldiers in 1655. It was then rebuilt on site in 1666, and then the Cathedral was brought down once more by hurricane in 1712, and was rebuilt in 1843. This is actually an Anglican Cathedral and not a Roman Catholic Church this being so since 1655.
