Ashdod base is charged with the southern Mediterranean scene deals mainly with the current security.Its mission is to sea and sea to save its integrity and sovereignty of Israel and protect the vital interests at sea, the scene of Ashdod.It is home to the 916th Patrol Squadron.

The port of Ashdod is located 40 kilometers south of Tel Aviv and first opened in 1965. The port was one of the first deep water ports built on the open sea, its primary breakwater in 2200 meters long and its lee breakwater is 900 meters long.

The entrace to the harbor is 300 meters wide and 14.8 meters deep while the maximum depth inside the port is 13.8 meters. The port was built with 14 quays and four more are under construction. In 2004, construction also began on an expansion of 1150 meters to the main breakwater, as well as a new computerized gate system. The Ashdod port employs over 1000 employees.
