In 1918, the Dakota County Agricultural Association acquired a tract of land in Castle Rock Township, near Farmington, to use as permanent grounds for its annual county fair. By that time, the association had already been active for sixty years and had held fairs—events that provided an educational and social outlet for county residents—at several sites around Dakota County.

The fairgrounds also rents out camping and RV sites during the off season.

  • Be very carefull if you store your equipment out at the fairgrounds over the winter season. Take pictures or movies of the condition prior to storage, and try to get them to sign off on its condition. They charge so much for storage, but when they cause damage, they then waffle and claim they have no idea how it was caused. Even when they know there was no damage prior to it being stored. Then they don't even reimburse some of the storage fee. They over charge then damage the items!
  • The recent "Bull Run" event displayed the Fairs contempt for the visitors. Immediately after the event they were putting out to the media about how it really wasn't a big deal and nobody "really" got hurt, and that all the "stories" about the "event" were over-blown! I wonder what the lady that had the head injury and was airlifted out would think about "not really got hurt"? The Fairgrounds has known that something like this could happen, and they could have taken steps to eliminate the danger, but they didn't want to spend the extra dollars!
