Opened in the early 1990s on the former site of Tinicum Township's "The Loop" convenience store, this particular branch of the Wawa convenience store chain was, at the time, larger than most of its counterparts. Predecessor to the chain's extra-large "Super Wawa" variety of units, this location featured, upon its grand opening, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut express counters. Gradually, the national fast food chains pulled out of the store.

Popular for township residents, this Wawa has also proven to be a "safe haven" of sorts for limousine drivers servicing Philadelphia International Airport and the airfield's surrounding array of hotels and motels, many of which are located in Tinicum Township.

As an answer to this, The Tinicum Township Wawa underwent an extensive renovation in 2007, which included a complete redesign (and expansion) of the building and store interior, as well as additional parking, including several spots where limousine drivers were welcome to park.

This unit is sometimes referred to by area youths as "the Taj - Mah Wawa" or "the Big Wawa." Such terms are a nod to its size as it compares to other locations in the immediate vicinity.
