History: this house was built in 1803 for Major Joseph Shipman. His daughter married Jeremiah Wilcox, and 1841 they became the owners of the house. In 1887 Jeremiah left the house to Joseph and Anna Wilcox. Joseph was a dairyman and raised dairy cows on his property. He and his wife had eight children; one was Katie Wilcox, a missionary in India for over 40 years. Another daughter was Annie, who ran "Wilcox's Specialty Shop" in Chester center. The house was in the Wilcox family until 1980 when it was sold by the estate of Nellie Wilcox to the present owner. Richard G. Price then owned and restored it.
