The production complex is located in the south- east of the town of Fermignano (PU) . The paper mill was using water energy of the Metaurus ; was later converted into a woolen mill which had a hydroelectric plant .
It was the most important local industry. Of this activity , which is vital for the small town , it is known since 1411 when the Montefeltro damage management in the factory three paper mills of Fabriano , a town where the manufacture of paper was already in full development . Owned by the Dukes first , then the Chapel , the mill was never managed directly , but always rented . Equipped with the standard machines with " stacks " and " hammers " , will see the installation of its first car, " Dutch " (the only real news in the paper technology after the fourteenth century ) in 1791 , among the first of the Papal States . As a result , poor maintenance due to indirect conduction and non-renewal of machinery, brought the mill to an unrelenting crisis that became final in 1870, when the mill was sold . In 1915, the factory passed into the hands of the family Carotti who transformed it into the silk mill and woolen mill . After World War II it was completely modernized and expanded .
