The oldest TV station in Georgia outside of Atlanta, WMAZ was founded in 1953. It was the only station in the market until 1968.

Due to its location, it is one of the most powerful TV stations in the United States, with a viewing area reaching from Atlanta's southern suburbs to Savannah's northern fringes. This combination of signal strength and tradition makes WMAZ one of the most dominant stations in the country. It has led its market with massive ratings shares for as long as records have been kept, and is still the only VHF station in the market.

  • The title here really oughta be in all-caps, being a TV station.
  • This station is a bit unprofessional. I heard one reporter say 'axe' instead of 'ask'("So we will have to axe them..."). It really sickens to know that people are ignorant enough to mispronounce that word like that.
