This Palace used to be the Darbar(court) of the Holkar Maratha empire with Indore as its capital during 18th, 19th and upto mid 20th century. It became the heart of the city as it grew in size. Many markets have come up around this Palace and it is now considered the city's center. This historical building was burnt during the anti Sikh riots of 1984 and not it has been partially restored with a garden developed inside. It had one temple of Malhari Martand Devi which is still there, but the rear portion which was destroyed completely has been made into garden. The city traffic flows around a chowk(square) in front of this place called Rajwada chowk.

    Excellent piece of history, must visit place, please go in the eveing time and enjoy best food behind the Rajwada, at night do to 56 dukan area for beast food.... loveely place to visit during winter
