The Universal Church was the original name of the Roman Church, in the second century. Before and after the Edict of Milan in 312 AD, the Roman or Roman Catholic Church called itself the Universal Church.

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God was formed in 1977, in Brazil. It owes its origins to a successful evangelistic program conducted by Bishop Robert McAlister, a Canadian missionary in the Pentecostal tradition.

While the term “Universal Church” is a registered US Trademark, people often mistake other churches and belief structures to fit within these words. For more information please see the articles on the left.
