This region itself is popularly known as ( or called) Barpeta Road because of the Railway station by the same name

Previous Name- Athiyabari.

It is one of the most important business places of Assam.
Barpeta Road is situated Near Guwahati (Distance-130 KM).
It is connected with Guwahati with local trains and take approximately 2 hours to reach there.
It is situated in western Assam,(lower Assam)27 Km far from Dist HQ of Barpeta.
Barpeta Road (Dist-Barpeta) is one of the important place in lower Assam and is the place for ideal trade and commerce, it is said to be the trade town of Lower Assam.

During October to March national and international Tourists throngs to this place to visit Manas National Park which enjoys the unique feature of Tiger reserve, Elephant reserve,Biosphere reserve and UNESCO'S natural heritage. Jungle Safari,River rafting in the picturique Manas river, Trekking,Bird Watching,Camp Fire are conducted inside the National Park. The Conservator office of the Manas National Park is located at Barpeta Road and entry passes for the National Park are issued from here.

During the year 1996, King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan graced this place while shooting the climax scene of his movie named "KOYLA".
