Giant statue. Erected in 1822 in honour of the Duke of Wellington. sculptor: Sir Richard Westmacott. Battered and stepped granite pedestal, surrounded by heavy granite bollards with spiked chains, on which stands a colossal bronze draped male nude, with sword and
buckler, freely modelled on one of the horse-tamers from the Monte Cavallo in Rome. The bronze was appropriately cast from captured French guns. A grade II listed status.
