Home of Rosemary Kennedy. In 1949, Rosemary moved to the St. Coletta School for Exceptional Children in Jefferson, Wisconsin, a residential institution for people with disabilities. Rosemary died from natural causes on January 7, 2005 at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin at the age of 86, with her three surviving sisters Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Patricia Kennedy Lawford and Jean Kennedy Smith, and her only surviving brother Senator Ted Kennedy.
St. Coletta first opened in 1904 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi as "St. Coletta Institute for Backward Youth". It quickly grew to over 500 students, but by the 1990s enrollment had dwindled and St. Coletta repurposed as an adult care institution. The school was closed in 1992 and St. Coletta moved to Alverno House, about a half mile north.
