Kampung Sungai Samak
36400 Hutan Melintang
Perak

This is about my kampong (village) named Kampong Sungai Samak located at Lower Perak. It was founded in 1920s by immigrants from Central Java. One of the founder, Haji Nor is my relative together with his few friends they opened the village with their bare hands. Life was tough back then with no pipe water, no electricity and no connection roads. My kampong is situated by the Bernam River bank bordering Perak and Selangor state. Till to the mid 70s the kampong ppl used this river for transportation by boat or sampan to the nearest town namely Bagan Terap, Sabak Bernam in Selangor and Ulu Bernam in Perak. A gravel road owned by a private palm oil estate in used since then have been replaced with tarred road since the 90s connecting Sabak Bernam to Teluk Intan main road. Sultan Idris of Perak has once visited this kampong in the 60s. In 1974 my school was brought down by strong wind and the pupils were temporarily placed at a Madrasa until the new school was completed two years later.
