This cottage was built in 1871 by Herbert Hoover's father and grandfather, Jesse Hoover and Eli Hoover. Herbert Hoover was born here in 1874 and lived in the 14 by 20 foot cottage until 1875 when the family moved to the "House of Maples." (The House of Maples no longer exists, but the site, which is South of the National Historic Site is marked.)
