The box marks the middle of the small Tacana village San Miguel del Bala. Here you find the school, the village hall, and the soccer field, while the family houses are dispersed along the Beni River.

The community of San Miguel has 235 inhabitants. They have built the San Miguel del Bala Eco-Lodge with help from United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and NGO's: CARE and Conservation International. The Eco-Lodge is 1600 meters south west of the of San Miguel village, and just 4000 meters from the entrance to the Madidi National Park.
