The ring-shaped fortress is still clearly recognizable in the landscape. The inner moat is still present. Of the buildings, only the ruins of the southern part are retained.

The oldest archaeological finds date from the last quarter of the 11th century and the first quarter of the 12th century.

The first mention of the place was in 1227 when Arnold, Count of 'Loon, gives the property to William van Pietersheim.
