The building of the church of St Andrew commenced in 1832 and was completed in 1837. Designed by James Bolger, it is a cruciform structure with a central cupola and a heavy Doric portico with an entablature and pediment, above which stands a figure of St Andrew. In the episode 'Lotus Eaters' Bloom is making his way to the Leinster Street Baths when he sits for a while in the church thinking what a good place it would be to sit next to a girl!
