Pearse Station, formerly known as Westland Row Station, was built by Charles
Vignoles as the terminus for the first commuter train in the world, which made its
maiden voyage from Dublin to Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) on 17th December 1834.
The railway, which was designed by William Dargan, was extended to Dalkey
by the Atmospheric, afterwards converted into a steam railway, and continued
to Bray. The Station was extended in 1861 and then transformed from a
terminus into a through station in the mid 1880s.
