The Tivoli Theatre was built as a cinema in 1934. Known as the Tivo, it survived
until 1964 when the last film was shown and the building converted into a Bingo Hall.
Even bingo did not keep the Tivoli going and it closed down in 1975. In 1987 it was
re-opened as a theatre, since when it has become one of Dublin's leading venues
for both theatrical productions and rock concerts.
