A mountain in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. An eccentric writer named Marshal South (born Roy Bennett Richards) settled on this mountain with his wife in 1932, after relocating due to the Great Depression. For 15 years they raised a family on this site and lived a primitive existence, with few links to civilization. The ruins of their home ("Yaquitepec," or "Home of the Yaqui") still stand today.
