On the Easter Monday it was occupied by volunteers who were soon they were under attack by British forces posted on the tower on Amiens Street (Connolly) station and the roof of Trinity College. By Wednesday the British had another machine-gun placed on the tower of Tara Street fire station. On the Thursday a blind man walked out of a door near Hopkins & Hopkins and began walking towards O'Connell Street, tapping with his stick. One brave British gunman shot the poor man and he fell to the ground. A Red Cross aid rushed from his cover to help the man. After bandaging his wound he helped him up and began to lead him away to safety. However, the brave British sniper took careful aim and shot and killed them both.
