This building became a licensed premises (bar) in 1798. After several changes of ownership, in 1889 it came into the hands of Davy Byrne, who retired in 1939. It is now owned by the Doran family. In the 'Lestrygonians' episode of James Joyce's novel, "Ulysses", the character Leopold Bloom went to Davy Byrnes, where he had a Gorgonzola cheese sandwich and a glass of burgundy.
