St. Sepulchre's Cemetery was opened in 1849 as an overflow for northern Oxford whose existing cemeteries were overflowing due to epidemics. The site chosen for St. Sepulchre was the old farmstead of Walton Manor Farm which had been abandoned at the beginning of the century and part of the land sold by St John's College.
