The Tailors' Hall with its large limestone gate and broken pediment was built in about 1706 to replace a building built in 1583. It is the last surviving guildhall in Dublin, and although built for the Gild of Tailors (founded in 1418) it was also used by other gilds, the precursors of modern trade unions.
After the abolition of the gilds in 1841, the building was used as a school. It was then used by the Mission to the Liberties and the Legion of Mary. Since 1983 it has been the headquarters of An Taisce - the National Trust for Ireland.
