The present West Bridge was built in 1891. Designed by the then Borough Engineer, E.C. Mawby, it was built by John Butler and Co of Leeds. The heads round the bridge towers represent characters from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. It is to be noted that this bridge's designation is No.112 West Bridge.
