Also known as Blackhawk Forest Preserve (a large wood carved statue of Blackhawk is situated at this preserve's entrance), it consists of 199 acres of grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands in St. Charles Township. It's located at a crook in the river, and is many things to many different people. The focus of activities is directed to this beautiful stretch of river and valley. Here we have boating, picnicking, fishing, horseback riding, bird watching, lounging along the shore and skipping rocks in the river with stones from the old gravel pit hills. Indeed, with the trail bridge (Fox River Trail) crossing the river, this is a major trail hub and stopping point.
