the former Pelican Inn. It was built in 1862 and the pargetting above the second floor windows was added by William Millican in 1881. The pub, which had a lovely frontage of plaster, brick and tasteful wooden balconies, had rather a racy reputation and had the honour of being the last public house to operate in Gallowtree Gate. It was sold in 1968.
