HSBC Bank (Leicester)

United Kingdom / England / Leicester / Granby Street, 31

The HSBC Bank was designed in 1872 by Joseph Goddard. Built for the Leicestershire
Banking Company, the building is of red brick with carved Portland stone and terracotta work by Samuel Barfield (notice his lizard logo, on the wall and over the widows). It is in the style of Venetian Gothic (a form of mixed Lombard and Early English Gothic), with an angle entrance tower and French pavilion roof. The spacious banking hall has a large lantern-light in the ceiling as well as splendid Art Nouveau stained glass windows.
