Charles Street Police Station, designed by Noel Hill in an English Palazzo style, was built in 1933. It is an austere almost threatening building that does not invite one to enter its portals! Leicester has dubious distinction of being the first city in England to have traffic wardens, who went on the streets on 6 April 1961.
