WW II, American reserve fuel dump.
A wall of stacked jerry-cans was built to supply the US troops.
It was the target of the German tanks coming from 'La Gleize',
barely stopped a few dozens metres at the East!

  • This location above the Barisart spring SW of Spa is the larger of TWO First Army fuel dumps, with approx. 2 million gallons of petroleum products staged along the roadside marked in the detail map above. The other location is along the northern side of the Francorchamps-Stavelot road, held approx. 1 million gals., and is the site mentioned in the combat accounts of the 30th ID and others. The fuel for the defensive fire break above Stavelot originated at this second site. However, neither of these sites were "targets" of the 1SS elements in La Gleize, as the Germans had no intel revealing these locations.
