Leicester Central Library (Leicester)

United Kingdom / England / Leicester / Bishop Street

Previously known as Bishop Street Library, it was built to the design of Edward Burgess and paid for by Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-American steel magnate and philanthropist, who also opened it in May 1905. Up to 1912, in an effort to stop betting, all references to horse racing were clipped out of the newspapers that were put in the public reading room.
